Proposal for TRHL 2013 season

I don't expect this to pass, but will throw it out there. Realize everyone's experiences and preferences are different but what I've enjoyed most about this league (since 1995 or whatever) is the franchise building aspect and the draft. What I enjoy the least is actually playing the games and having 2x-weekly responsibilities to do something (MP upload or playing series). Please don't take that the wrong way ... not saying anything is broken ... just saying that's what I enjoy most and enjoy least. Your mileage may vary.

Here's my draft proposal, convert the league to a mostly simmed league. Somewhat similar to what we do in the KDBL, everyone uploads their MP to the website/drone once a week (say Sunday night). Two series are simmed each week through August (say starting in mid-March real time). Then for the TRHL September, we switch to H2H, for the 9 or so series that remain, plus the playoffs. These series could have a 1-week deadline to be played which I think would diminish the dead time we currently have between the end of the season and the disk coming out. Think it could also help w/ the issue in the other thread as it compels owners to manage their teams in September when they most need to (either for playoff run, or roster maintenance).

To me the advantages are that you get a truer simulation of which team builds are best and less one of who's the better in-game manipulator of DMB. (If my math is right, TRHL2012 has a home win / road win ratio of 1.33, whereas MLB2013 is 1.17. I would assume that is a statistically significant difference given the large samples.) Everyone will still have the power to set very detailed MP instructions (for each of the 6 games that your team will play). All will still have the ability to call up guys, pick up FAs, trade, DL injured players, etc. Then, for those teams that are playoff bound, you'll still have 1 month to fine-tune how to manage your team in the playoffs. Not sure if it makes droning easier or harder, but only having one deadline a week may relieve some of that burden. Not sure about other owners but I would value having a fixed weekly responsibility (to either drone, submit an MP, or play an H2H series). I think a limited but important H2H period would build more league participation as well.

Interested in what others think ... and willing to tinker w/ proposal if there's any support for the broad concept.

Thanks,

Pat D. - Chinook

Personally, I really enjoy playing the games and wouldn't support this for that reason.

If the CM/MP system were more robust, I wouldn't necessarily hate the idea, but I don't think it's viable in a 24 team league where it's difficult to build the sort of roster the CM isn't going to screw up too badly.

Also, I enjoy playing the games as well, and would be opposed on those grounds. I'd love more H2H play, but don't really expect to have the time for it going forward, sadly.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a DH-like league split where half the teams play this way and the other half sticks with the current setup, though, if there are enough people interested.

I really like playing the games.

I think we should try and do more netplay.
