BDM takes 2 of 3 from Edmonton
arthur gandolfi - April 21, 2014 01:46PM
Edmonton takes game 3 when Paul Goldschmidt breaks up Miguel Gonzalez's no-hitter with a solo shot in the 7th, and hits another solo shot off Uehara in the 9th.

I am officially requesting an investigation of DMB's bias against Uehara.

Uehara
Gaelan - April 21, 2014 05:36PM
In my other diamondmind league (which you happen to be in) Uehara has a 0.99 ERA in 27 innings, is 10/10 for save opportunities and is holding opponent hitters to a 079/118/225 line.

Uehara's performance in this league isn't that strange considering the sample size. His OPS allowed is 58% higher than real life. On my team Peralta is 32% higher than real life, de la Rosa, is 40%. I bet every team has relievers like this.

Beyond sample size, another issue is size of league. This league is a 24 team league so the talent pool is fairly diluted but still not to the 30 team MLB level, so lineups are strong. In a 20 team league, lineups are even stronger.

Point 2 is that players in these types of league tend to use relievers differently than MLB - Uehara is probably facing more better hitters (3-4-5) than weakers ones (6-7-8) and they are probably a better 3-4-5 than most real MLB teams.

Point 3, teams are more likely to pinch hit with a strong split LH hitter even for an everyday player is a game ending situation (i.e. Colby Rasmus pinch hitting for Justin Upton) - wouldn't happen in MLB.

Point 4 - The computer manager does weird stuff ...

Point 5 - There used to be a bug in the program that the last update fixed that affected relievers effectiveness ... has everyone installed it?

Then, of course, there's still sample size ... toss a quarter a dozen times ... how many heads do you get. Do it again ...

Just some thoughts.

Mathis and Hanigan each out for 1.5 months.

Good think I have Henry Blanco in reserve ...

Chinook at Glovers
Ryan Jones - April 22, 2014 06:42PM
Game 1: Glovers recover from a 3-0 deficit in the 8th to tie it up on a Choo homer, but the Chinook re-take the lead in the top of the 9th after Choo misplays a flyball into a two-base error. 4-3 Chinook.

Game 2: The Glovers goon-squad Lynn and assorted Chinook relievers on their way to a 10-2 victory.

Game 3: Delgado gives up three homers (to Joyce, Hardy, and Sogard), but still manages a 93 pitch complete game, and the Glovers offense does bad things to Eovaldi. Final score of 7-4 for the Glovers.

Which update? I have version 10a installed. Was there a more recent update?
Re: Series 13
Gaelan - April 23, 2014 06:05PM
I checked after reading that as well. Version 10a, which is what I have installed, is all I could find. It didn't say anything about reliever performance though.
