Please use lineups 5 and 6 when Lackey and Burnett pitch (they're named for the appropriate pitcher), just need to make sure I'm not tiring out my catching.

Chinook @ Hares
Gaelan - March 22, 2014 11:14AM
Home opener for the Hares pitting two teams that heading into the season figured to be in the race for the division pennant and wildcard spots.

Game One:

Battle of aces as Jose Fernandez faced off against Cliff Lee. Both were good but neither dominant. Fernandez pitched around some infield hits and benefited from Trout throwing out Uribe at home in the second, giving up three runs over seven. Lee scattered nine hits over eight innings, striking out eleven and walking none.

Entering the bottom of the ninth the Chinook led 3-2 with Varvaro in to close the game. He started well getting newly called up Bernier to ground out to second but then he hit Adam Jones who had previously closed the lead to one with a solo HR in the seventh. Justin Turner came in to pinch-hit for Jayson Nix and lined a 2-0 pitch to right setting up first and third with one out. Cesar Hernandez came in to pinch-hit for the pitcher and lined a single to shallow center to tie the game bringing MVP candidate Mike Trout to the plate with the winning run on second. Varvaro buckled down and got him to fly out bringing David Wright to the plate with the game on his bat. He grounded the first pitch to short which looked like it would send the game to extra innings but Hardy booted it allowing Turner to score from third.

Hares win 4-3 in a very tough loss for the Chinook.

Game Two:

Similar game to game one as the Chinook send ace number two Felix Hernandez to the mound against Rick Porcello. Entering the bottom of the eighth Chinook led 4-2 with Hernandez still pitching well. He gets Quentin to ground out but this was followed by a solo HR by David Wright which sent him to the showers. In comes Varvaro again who once again coughs up the lead allowing a single, an intentional walk, a HBP, and then another walk bringing Trout to the plate with the game tied, the bases loaded, and two out. Trout, however, fails to come through.

From there both teams put up zeros for two innings before the Chinook score three in the top of the eleventh. In the bottom of the inning the Trout walked (where was this when I needed it) and Goldschmidt got on on an error bringing up David Wright with two on and two out against Cingrani. No clutch hit this time as the Chinook win 7-4 in 11 innings

Game Three:

Sonny Gray vs. R.A. Dickey. This is a more typical affair. Adams puts Chinook up by two with a HR in the top of the first but the Hares respond in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own. From there the Hares take on singles in the 4th, 6th, and 8th, and cruise to a 6-2 victory.

Damage get quality starts from Beckett and Grienke, while the Aces get at least 7 innings out of each starter plus a Colon complete game to end the series.

McCann has a 5 rbi game 2 and the Aces finally win a series. 2 games to 1.

A series of ugly slugfests as pitchers are sacrificed to the gods. Breakers take the first two and so win the series despite allowing 27 runs in the series.

How in the hell are we 9-3, including 7-2 on the road?

MP is DEFINITELY NOT ready to go. Our two primary catchers have both hit the DL. Time to dumpster dive and sign a C or two.
