It does not seem like anybody is rushing to sign up for vacant team 121. In addition to being a really bad team, there is a 10K Yasiel Puig contract buyout. I think that team really sucks and for a team that needs a total rebuild, that is adding insult to injury.

Greg told me that "I would have waived the penalty, but precedent was set across many seasons precedent was set across many seasons -- no mercy on the LTCs with new owners taking on a team."

That was in response to me asking about how much it would cost me to get out of Russel Martin's contract. I am fine with sticking with precedent and paying that buyout.

But maybe an exception should be made with Puig. I tried to get a friend of mine to take on the team and he said

"I looked at the Charter and I am seeing a great big time suck. What do you think?"

I haven't responded to him yet, but I would feel better about trying to convince him to take it, if it weren't the worst team in the league which is also starting 10K in the hole

Glovers ownership is looking to resign. Perhaps your friend would want the Glovers instead?

He might, I will look in to it, but how would that help us with getting the draft going? Could my friend take over the Glovers and would the Glovers owner draft for team 101 before resigning?

I still think removing the Puig LTC penalty would be wise.

See e-mail I just sent. My have a solution for the vacant team. And you could take a team with ZERO players and still rebuild it within a couple of seasons. There is no truly awful team in the TRHL because there's a hard salary cap and plenty of value available each year in the auction.

I actually think I'd be OK with throwing out LTC penalties for new ownership, though I also don't think they're all that big a roadblock to rebuilding.

Of course, I think the whole LTC system could probably be chucked. It wouldn't surprise me at all if on net the amount it has saved teams is similar to the amount paid in penalties by teams ditching them early. The strategic advantage of LTCs is dwarfed by the advantages that can be built up with careful drafting and player acquisition.

I'd be fine with waiving the buyout penalty for new owners.
