BDM MP ready

Game 1, BDM open up a 3-0 lead, and thru 7 innings keep Canons to just 3 hits. The home side doubles that number and goes ahead 4-3. Agonizing for BDM, as they kept their starter in. Ground out to short, pop out to catcher and ground out to 2nd and that's goodnight Charlie.

Game 2, a 3-1 lead for BDM becomes a 5-1 lead after 7.5 inns. Bottom of the ninth and a disastrous grand slam doesnt happen and they close out the game 5-1.

Game 3, and its Kershaw on the mound for the Canons against Wood for the BDM. I wonder what happened next.

Really? The freaking computer leaves the SP in to give up 4 runs in the 8th? WTF designed the AI?

What a shitty way to end the season (I assume).

To be fair to Thornburg and the computer manager, it was Rivera that yielded the three-run double, with all the runs charged to Thornburg. So there were two outs, bases loaded, 3-1 score and Thornburg had 120 pitches on him when he was finally yanked.

Though I probably would have pulled Thornburg after that walk to lead off the inning, especially with all of those relievers available.

To finish the season Aces sweep and Greg didn't have to sim it for a change

The Marauders host the division champion Hares with a wild card berth hanging in the balance....

Game 1: FA pickup Michael Roth keeps the Hares off the board for 3 innings, while the Marauders jump out to a 4-0 lead. Roth is yanked in the 4th after allowing a pair of runs, but Vic Black only makes it worse as the Hares come out of the inning with a 6-4 lead. The Marauders take the lead back in the bottom of the inning capped by a 2-run Freddie Freeman HR, but the Hares claim it for good in the 6th and go on to a 9-7 win.

Game 2: Emergency starter Kevin Chapman is once again more than adequate, surrendering only a single hit over 4 innings. Unfortunately, that hit was a 2-run HR, which is all the Jose Fernandez-backed Hares would need, as they take the middle game 2-1 despite only the single hit in the game.

Game 3: Needing a win to avoid a play-in game, the Marauders send an actual SP in Shelby Miller out to face Juan Nicasio. Stephen Drew leads off the game with a HR, and the Marauders fans start trying to guess who might start a play-in game with BDM (likely Trevor Rosenthal, since our only other non-overused SP, Homer Bailey, is out for 2 weeks). But the Marauders tie it up in the 2nd, take a 3-2 lead in the 3rd, and then crack the game open with 6 runs in the 4th. By the time 4th-string C Tony Sanchez hit a grand slam in the 7th, it was 15-2 Marauders, as the Muenchen squad squeaks into the playoffs with the gas tank completely dry.

Chris, you won 1 game, right?

Doesn't that leave us tied? If the Clowns win 2, I think it's a 3-way tie.

Damage come into the final series feisty and rap the home team on the nose by taking the first two games, before the Heroes regroup to win the season finale. Good luck to all in the playoffs (unless I'm playing you, in which case I wish you only mediocre luck).

Our playoff rules don't seem especially clear to me, but I think if the Clowns win 3, they're in and there's a MUN-BDM one game playoff. If the Clowns win 2, MUN is in and there's a IND-BDM playoff for the other spot since MUN has the 3-way bye, and there's no need to play the bye game once the loser of the first game is eliminated.

Outlaws have to settle for 2nd best overall record on the season.

We'd never decide a playoff spot based on a tie-breaker category would we?

I assume playoff spots have to be determined on the "field". Wouldn't we just use the NLB rules?

Yes, BDM and Muenchen wind up tied, so it all comes down to the Clowns/Pirates showdown.

Clowns win <2: both BDM and Muenchen make playoffs, tiebreaker determines seeding

Clowns win 2: 3-way tie, some form of hilarity ensues (especially when the Marauders try to figure out who gets to start since we don't have a single SP who isn't tired, injured, or overused)

Clowns win 3: BDM and Muenchen duke it out for final playoff spot

tl;dr: Go Pirates!

MLB has a strong tendency to make up tiebreaker rules as they go along, but I think Bill may be right about their latest attempt: since a play-in game counts as a regular season game, whoever loses the first such game has a worse record than the team that did not play in that game so they're no longer tied.

That said, I'm perfectly fine with some sort of round-robin affair.

Oh, and I have no idea what the actual tiebreaker should be, since I'm not sure it makes any sense for "intra-divisional record" to be the tiebreaker for teams in different divisions. I guess that's what the rules say, but that's kinda dumb.

Looks like the Marauders have the worst, not best, intra-divisional record at 51-39, however, so we'd be the #3 seed needing 2 road wins to make the playoffs in that scenario.

Whitecaps MP for the last series vs Hawks.

Alston arrived in Crescent Beach tied for the Iron Horse division lead. Their rotation was severely shorthanded, and I applied the transaction reported on the site but not included in the file, adding Travis Blackley.

Blackley immediately handcuffed the Breaker batters and Alston won the opener 2-1 in 12. However, the long game was too much for the stretched Terrier staff and the Breakers won two laughers, putting Alston a half-game behind Halifax pending the other series.

Crescent Beach finishes a dismal 74-88, our fourth straight losing season, despite a +5 run differential. Top hitters were Hanley Ramirez (.345/.419/.628 with 20 HR in only 384 PAs), Brandon Belt (.298/.360/.505), Pedro Alvarez (38 HR, 91 RBI), and Justin Smoak (27 HR, 95 RBI). The best pitchers were Marco Estrada (12-4, 3.03), Hisashi Iwakuma (9-11, 3.46), and Chad Qualls (0.82 ERA in 66 relief innings). Optimism for next year was dimmed by injuries to key players such as Matt Moore, Jurickson Profar, and Belt. Nevertheless, we'll try to end the losing streak.
